Double Glazed Units (DGU) consist of two or more panels of glass separated by an airspace and an aluminium or other type of spacer around the edges, hermetically sealed to the perimeter in controlled conditions. The spacer contains a desiccant (drying agent) which eliminates moisture vapour in the cavity. The combination of the two panels of glass and the trapped air is what makes double glazed units a superior energy efficient method of glazing. Double glazed units can improve thermal performance, significantly reducing heating and air conditioning costs and includes cutting down on the possibility of condensation and providing better sound insulation.
DGU glass is just the start of a High STC door or window. We have engineered the entire window or door unit to insure that the actual performance will be as expected. All of our products have been tested as complete units, including the frame and EPDM gaskets, mounted in an opening exactly as you would install it. Additionally we have tested our operable windows to clearly show any loss in performance you will experience. We manufacture all of our products with a variety of glass thicknesses and have them tested in various configurations.
